Et kanak nu metapi-ak es pensionados.

Ngem kanan nan gobyerno:

“Adi ka mabalin monsieur Ricardo

tan dakdake di bayadam ay tax mo

nu manpension ka edwani ay tiempo

tan masapol engganas sies centai sies di taw-en mo. »

Ay aye pai sa mu…

Kinmapsot et pai san mata.

Mankitagda abe  san bab-a.

Magay mabay-an et baw si en lamsamen.

Tan maibayad amin si utang ay naurno-urnong.

Isu gayam ta san nanpension ay inmun una

et around the clock da ay men-ob-obla.

Din rason da et, ‘makay ya mabakes da kano ay dagus mu ewet ittutukdo da.’»

Isu nga dakayo ay o-ung-ah:

«Estenyo ay man-obla ya din salun-at enyo alwadan,

tan adi takon maibaga.

Nu dumateng din tiempoyo ya  kananda,

 ‘Engganas mantaw-en kayo si otsinta.’”

I have reached my 65th birthday.

I thought I’d finally be counted as a retiree.

But alas, the government tells me:

“Mr. Ricardo, you cannot be—

Unless you’re willing to shoulder

a massive deduction from your pension,

because legally, you must work until sixty-six.”

What the hell…

My vision is deteriorating.

My teeth are loose and falling out.

My hearing isn't what it used to be.

And my knees wobble every time I stand.

By the time I arrive at my retirement,

Gone is my dream of enjoyment.

(What the heck!)

So, I told myself:

“Is this how I’m meant to arrive?

The thought of a lump sum has vanished.

It’s already spoken for by accumulated debts.

Now I understand why those who retired

keep working around the clock.

It’s just an alibi when they say, ‘Stay active, honey, otherwise, you grow old quickly.’”

So, I say to you, dear young ones:

“Do your job well, but always guard your health,

because we cannot foretell the future.

At this rate, one day they might say,

“You can only retire when you turn eighty.”
